MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Most Wisconsin counties remain in the “very high” category for coronavirus activity on the state’s weekly dashboard.
That holds true for Northeast Wisconsin, as well. In our area, Marinette, Outagamie and Waupaca counties had growing trajectories. The majority, though, had no significant change, including Brown, Winnebago and Fond du Lac counties.
Florence, Green Lake and Waushara counties were in the “high” category with no significant change. Menominee County was one of three statewide to be listed in the “critically high” category. It had no significant change from the last update.
As for the daily update, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services confirmed 2,712 new infections on Thursday, or 28% of the 9,699 total tests done. Another 42 people died of complications related to COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Seven-day averages moved to 2,492 new cases, 27% test positivity and 30 deaths per day.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 515,982 confirmed cases, more than 2.4 million negative tests and 5,290 deaths. DHS lists 482,669 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
As of Thursday, 195,152 doses of vaccine had been administered in Wisconsin.
Thursday morning’s update indicated no patients at the alternate care facility near Milwaukee.
Overall hospitalizations dipped on Thursday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported 998 total COVID-19 patients, down 27 from Wednesday and 79 from a week earlier. Of those, 229 were in intensive care, five more than on Wednesday but 15 fewer than a week earlier.
In the Northeast region, there were 90 COVID-19 patients, seven fewer than on Wednesday and five fewer than a week earlier. There were 29 in ICUs, a one-day drop of one, but a one-week increase of seven. Fox Valley region hospitals reported 69 COVID-19 patients, 10 fewer than on Wednesday, but 14 more than a week earlier. Seven of those were in ICUs, the same number as on Wednesday but two more than a week earlier.
