MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Dane County man who was caught driving drunk near the State Capitol has been arrested on suspicion of his 3rd OWI.
Sheriff’s officials say 44-year-old Willie Burks of Madison drove up the steps of the Capitol along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. He then drove back down and continued along the road against traffic before parking his vehicle.
Burks was arrested and taken to the Dane County jail. Further court action against him is pending.
The Capitol building has been under tight security as officials prepare for possible protests and violence ahead of President-Elect Joe Biden’s inauguration day. Investigators say they have no reason to believe that Burks’ actions were politically motivated.
