MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Coronavirus activity in Wisconsin continues to decline, even as the number of new cases rose back above 1,000 on Thursday.
On the state’s weekly dashboard, Calumet was the only area county to be listed in the “very high” category, though its trajectory of cases was shrinking. All other area counties were in the “high” category. The only county in the state with a growing trajectory was Iron County in far northern Wisconsin.
On Thursday, the state Department of Health Services reported 1,239 new confirmed cases, or 17.3% of the 7,144 total tests completed. Although it was the first time all week more than 1,000 new cases were reported, the seven-day average of new cases fell to 879, its lowest level since Labor Day.
DHS also reported 11 new deaths, with the seven-day average dropping to 21, its lowest level since Oct. 22.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 553,110 confirmed cases and 6,140 deaths. DHS considered 534,164 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
DHS’ revamped vaccination dashboard shows 860,389 total vaccine doses administered, with 196,991 people having completed their two-dose course of vaccinations. Among people 65 and older, 34.1% have received at least one dose and 2.7% have received both doses.
