WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — County supervisors will vote on a resolution to provide local support to a new community COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
Governor Tony Evers announced on Tuesday morning that the state will be launching four new community COVID-19 vaccination clinics within the next two months. One of those locations is Marathon County where County Supervisors are considering a resolution to provide support to the clinic.

County Board Chair and District 32 Supervisor Kurt Gibbs explains the resolution will authorize county staff to help with the clinic in a variety of ways. “It authorizes administration and or staff to take the necessary steps to support a regional vaccination site in Marathon County.
“If that site is going to need additional coordination from the County for traffic control or potential other support services, cleaning, that type of thing. That’s what this resolution would authorize administration and or the [County] Health Department to execute those agreements.”
The community vaccination site will be run by AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, a medical service provider, contracted by the state Department of Health Services. Gibbs says at this time AMI is evaluating three suggested clinic sites to choose from in the next two weeks.
“The county has forwarded three potential sites to AMI for their review. They made one recommendation but ultimately it’s still AMI’s decision. And they hope to have that decision in the next couple of weeks.
“Some of the things that they are taking into consideration are access to transportation, access to the highways and the interstate. And then access and the ability to handle potentially up to 100 vaccinations per day. And so the facility needs to accommodate that,”.
The County has recommended that Northcentral Technical College be the site of the community COVID-19 vaccination clinic. Other site options include the gymnasium at UWSP Wausau and the Wausau Center Mall.
The full county board will vote on the resolution at their adjourned annual meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. The resolution has already passed the Health and Human Services Committee and the Executive Committee.
