MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — After a few days of increases, Wisconsin’s seven-day averages of new coronavirus cases and deaths ended the work week on a decline.
The state Department of Health Services reported 656 new cases, or 11.9% of the 5,498 tests done. There were also five new deaths.
The rolling seven-day average of new cases fell to 615, and the seven-day average of deaths fell to 19.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 562,807 total cases in Wisconsin and 6,399 deaths. DHS lists 548,040 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
Vaccinations also hit a milestone, as more than half of Wisconsinites ages 65 and older have now received at least one dose. DHS says 51.3% of senior citizens have received their first shot and 18.7% have completed their two-dose series.
Overall, 1,340 694 doses had been administered in Wisconsin as of Friday, with 443,026 people having received both doses.
Hospitalization numbers should be updated later in the afternoon.
