In FDR’s first inaugural address he stated: “So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.”
What our government has perpetrated on Americans in the past year is appalling. The most overused and inaccurate cliche in 2020 was “the new normal.” Like most cliches, I almost always reject them. There was certainly nothing normal about what was thrust upon us by overzealous government bureaucrats. What was so wrong with American life before the 99+% survivable virus that conveniently infiltrated the United States during a presidential election year? We had a strong, determined and resolute president leading our country. Our economy was booming – unemployment was at an historical low, the stock market had reached record highs, there was great confidence in national security and an abundance of prosperity and liberty. We had a president who challenged the status quo and demanded accountability and real results from everyone – something that the Washington Establishment, the mainstream media and the ‘progressive’ left resisted and roundly rejected in favor of big government, big pharma, big tech and big control.
How were the American people so easily manipulated, their minds arranged to be fearful and distrustful of one another and their better judgment? Like a page taken right out of the “never waste a good crisis” playbook, those in our government who delighted in seizing control of citizens’ lives – and livelihoods have now outed themselves as addicted to power and greed through coercion and force under the guise of “concern” for public health and welfare. This is not the America that any of us want – and I do not intend to acquiesce. Eventually, each and every one of us must face whatever it is that we fear – and in doing so, discover that we are all much stronger than we’ve been led to believe by an impersonal and indifferent government.
It is time to take back our country and our lives from those who are not acting on behalf of what is best for America. Join me in rejecting fear and instead replace it with strength and courage. That is what is uniquely American about each one of us.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
