MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) — A historic mill in Menasha has been totally destroyed in a Sunday night fire.
The fire broke out at the former Whiting Paper Mill on River Street around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Menasha Fire Chief Kevin Kloehn says they may not ever find out what caused it.
“It’s pretty well collapsed in,” Kloehn told WTAQ and I don’t know if we’ll ever find any type of evidence whether it was lightning or somebody started it or whatever it’s going to be pretty difficult.”
Storms did move through the area on Sunday evening.
That mill was closed in 2016. It first opened in 1882 and actually burned down once before before being rebuilt in 1888.
There weren’t any injuries.
