MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — For the second straight night, the Milwaukee Brewers hit some balls hard but could not cash them in for runs and the San Diego Padres escaped with a 2-1 win in 10 innings at American Family Field.
The Padres scored a first inning run but then didn’t get on the scoreboard again until Victor Caratini singled in the go ahead run in the 10th.
The Brewers responded by having runners at the corners with no outs in their half of the 10th but Kaje Cronenworth snared a hard ground ball from Jackie Bradley Jr. and nailed Keston Hiura trying to score.
The only run the Brewers managed was a home run from their starting pitcher Eric Lauer. Lauer, back in the rotation and pitching against his former team for the first time, looked good. He pitched six strong innings giving up one run on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Brent Suter took the loss in relief.
The Brewers now drop to 24-25 overall and will try for a split of the four game series this afternoon. Pre game show at 11:35 on WSAU.
Milwaukee also made a roster move on Wednesday. With Lauer returning to the major league roster, the Brewers designated Josh Lindblom for assignment. The struggling right-hander has agree to head to Nashville if nobody picks up the remainder of his contract off waivers.
