KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) — Some residents in Kronenwetter who are serviced by the Village’s #2 water well could be getting their water from Rothschild by this time next year.
Administrator Richard Downey says the two Villages are in the process of finalizing an agreement that calls for Kronewetter to purchase treated drinking water from Rothschild.
“That project will be online by February or March of 2022,” said Downey. “We have to purchase property, get equipment and pipes in, and get the metering equipment to talk to each other- all of these little pieces.”
After the connection between Rothschild and Kronenwetter is flowing utility workers will install additional filtration systems on Well #2 designed to cut down on the number of minerals in the water. That will then allow the growing village to have three good sources of water for future needs.
The bad news for residents in all of these upgrades are going to come with an additional cost in the next few years. Downey says the process of implementing those increases is heavily regulated by the state’s Public Service Commission.
“Afer it’s been in place for one full calendar year they’ll come back and say ‘ok what was your operating costs?’ and then they adjust our rates,” said Downey “We don’t say we want to adjust our rates by a dollar, or by 50%, something like that. The PSC- they set our new rates.”
A similar routine will be put in place for the new filtration system on Well #2 when that comes online.
