WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Marathon County Public Library Board of Trustees had little to say Monday regarding the circumstances that led to the resignation of former Director Ralph Illick earlier this summer.
Trustees met for around 45 minutes in closed session on Monday to discuss three matters including a complaint against an employee of the library, performance evaluation data regarding the library director, and conferring with legal counsel concerning potential litigation.
Following the session Board President Sharon Hunter kept her comments short.
“We are looking for a final report from von Briesen [and Roper] regarding the investigation of our staff. That will be due by July 19th,” said Hunter.
von Briesen & Roper is the Milwaukee firm handling the investigation into the matter, details of which have remained under wraps since Illick was placed on administrative leave in mid-May. He resigned May 27th following a two-hour closed session meeting of Trustees at the Marathon County Courthouse.

Monday’s meeting did not have any mention of the two other employees who were placed on leave alongside Illick- Matthew Derpinghaus and Thomas O’Neil. Following the May 27th meeting officials said that Interim Director Leah Giordano was authorized to take appropriate action against them, though what that means along with their role in the investigation remain unclear.
Trustees also met for a half hour before Monday’s regularly scheduled to map out how the applications for the position will be processed and procedures for interviews. At least five applications have already been submitted for the position. The posting will remain active until July 6th.
