GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur says his team’s COVID-19 vaccination rate is good but could be better.
“We’d like to be better, but I think we’ve made a lot of progress,” LaFleur said. “So all we can do is try to educate the guys and tell them the protocols and ramifications of being unvaccinated.”
LaFleur says those who haven’t received the vaccine are required to wear masks in team facilities and certain pre-practice settings. “The fines for them [not following protocol] are not cheap. So we will continue to educate these guys.”
The NFL has set a goal of having each team reach an 85% vaccination rate before the season starts. Teams have also been informed that they will not be rescheduling games outside the 18-week regular season structure. Meaning if a game can’t be made up, it will be a forfeit and players will not receive their game check for that week. Additionally, the team with the outbreak will be credited with a loss in the standings.
Packers Training Camp continues this week leading up to the annual Family Night scrimmage at Lambeau Field. The first of three preseason games are scheduled for August 14th against the Houston Texans.
