WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of hiding a corpse in the closet of a Marathon City hotel room will spend four years in prison on an amended charge and avoid a jury trial.
Daniel Allen was in court Monday where a judge agreed to a plea deal that changes the count against him from hiding a corpse to delivery of heroin. Allen then pled guilty to the charge and was handed a nine-year sentence including four years in prison and five years of extended supervision.
The charges stem from a May 2018 incident in which the body of Brian Kienast was discovered in a closet at the Village Inn of Marathon City. Autopsy results showed Kienast died from an overdose of drugs including heroin. Officers believe he died the previous November, around the time he was reported missing.
In addition to the prison and extended supervision, Allen has also been ordered to maintain absolute sobriety from all controlled substances except prescribed drugs.
As part of the deal, the state has agreed to not file any further charges from the incident.
Allen’s trial had been scheduled to begin Monday and run through Wednesday.
