WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man accused of first-degree intentional homicide against his three-month-old son will go to trial on the charges in mid-2022.
Marathon County Judge Gregory Strasser has scheduled a ten-day trial for Ronnie Lofton Jr to run between May 16th and 27th.
The 39-year-old, who recently moved to Indiana, is also facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed knife, and bail jumping in the incident.
The case also coincides with a separate case for charges of battery and domestic conduct- both of which carry domestic abuse modifiers and obstructing an officer. That case is scheduled for review hearings alongside the trial
Lofton is accused of causing multiple injuries to the boy including a severe brain injury and skull fracture. The child was put on life support but later died.
Doctors said the injures were the kind typically see in a high-speed car crash.
Lofton was originally set for a one-day trial in the case in the spring of 2021 however the case was reset before then. He will return to court for a judicial pretrial on December 14th and a jury status hearing on May 2nd before the trial begins.
