STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Police in Stevens Point responded to a weapons-related disturbance in an apartment on Johns Drive Sunday night.
The incident started with a report of gunshots, and when officers arrived they found the suspect had already left the scene and a victim who had been assaulted.
The suspect was later identified as Justin Salazar. Investigators say the 30-year-old entered the victim’s apartment and pointed a rifle at the victim. A struggle ensued and the gun went off two times.
It’s unclear if the victim suffered serious injuries in the incident but he did deny medical assistance at the scene.
Police caught up with Salazar at his home on Franklin Street. Officers set up a perimeter, but Salazar came out of the building on his own and was arrested without incident on the front steps.
Officers have recommended nearly a dozen charges against Salazar including first-degree recklessly endangering safety, criminal trespassing, burglary, intentionally pointing a firearm at a person, and being armed with a firearm while intoxicated.
No further information, including what actions may have led up to Sunday’s incident, has been released. Possible court action against Salazar is pending.
