WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A Schofield man accused of brutally beating his now ex-girlfriends cat is scheduled to be in court Friday.
Andrew Gehr is set to appear in court for a pre-trial conference; where the two sides will discuss the charges.
According to a criminal complaint from August, Gehr beat the cat so badly that it suffered trauma injuries to its head and eyes. A police report says Gehr then hid the cat in a backyard shed, and pretended not to know what happened to it while assisting in the search for it for two days.
The cat eventually had to be euthanized due to the extent of its injuries.
Gehl is charged with a misdemeanor. Some animal rights activists have complained on social media that the charges are too lenient. They’d been planning to protest outside the courthouse, although its not clear if that will happen.
Gehr’s jury trial is scheduled for December 21.
