WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) — Wisconsin Rapids police are trying to solve an unusual theft case. The missing item is an antique paper making machine. It’s big, heavy, and disappeared from a storage area. The machine is one of the first paper coating machines used for the commercial paper industry, and was built by the Beloit Iron Works for a Wisconsin Rapids mill.
Officials says the big, heavy machine had been cleared out of a warehouse without the knowledge of the owners. Investigators say some pieces including the large rollers were later recovered in a salvage yard in Green bay and were returned, but the large frame that displays “Beloit Iron Works” has not been located. It’s also not clear when the machine disappeared, as the owners believe it could have disappeared anytime in the past two years.
Police say it is large, unique, and very heavy, so it didn’t just leave the warehouse in someone’s pickup truck. Anyone that knows more about the disappearance of the antique paper machine should contact the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department through the dispatch center at 715-421-8764, or Wood County Crimestoppers. We have the phone number, text instructions, and website for Crimestoppers listed below.
