WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — A familiar Wausau landmark is once again open for business as Covantage Credit Union’s remodel of the building on the corner of First and Stewart Avenue is over.
The building officially opened its doors to members yesterday after several months of construction. CEO Brian Prunty says they had simply outgrown their nearby branch. “We no longer had a place to add staff, and we needed to make sure that we provide our members with an acceptable level of service, and we believe this new facility will do just that.” CoVantage purchased the building from Associated bank last year after they vacated it for a new location farther west on Stewart Avenue.
The mirrored windowed building has long been a banking location in Wausau and Prunty says CoVantage was happy to get their hands on it. “We were already well on our way to figure out how we were going to get enough space in the central part of Wausau. So we were engaged in looking for alternatives when we found that this boulding was going up for sale.”
The new building gives them plenty of space to stretch out. “The old facility was about 4,000 square feet, this one has a total of 21,000 square feet. So it will accommodate our needs in the years ahead.” Prunty says customers will be able to get most of their needs met on the first floor, and business loans and other large financial offices are moving to the second floor.
The total cost for the project was $5 million including the purchase of the property and renovations.
