WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — City employees in Wausau are now asked, not required, to disclose whether they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
The decision recently passed both the city’s HR Committee and common council and is meant to clear up confusion that the last policy left.
The new policy calls for employees who don’t reveal their vaccination status to be treated as unvaccinated. Meaning if they are exposed to someone with COVID-19 they could be asked to quarantine at home for eight days to two weeks. That decision will be made by the Human Resources Department and the employee’s supervisor.
For those who have been vaccinated, their proof of vaccination will be kept as part of their employee file.
According to documents that were included in the proposal as part of last week’s City Council meeting, some supervisors were unsure of what to do when their employees came to them saying they had either tested positive or been a close contact.
The policy adds that the city will continue watching the situation around COVID-19 and update the policy as appropriate.
