WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Tax bills are now complete for residents of the city of Wausau.
The city council voted 8-3 to adopt the 2022 city budget on Tuesday. “As chair of the Finance Committee, I just wanted to communicate that this is a budget that we as council members can be proud of,” said Alder Lisa Rasmussen. “The Committee was pretty much of the consensus that they were proud of their work on this.”
Rasmussen says the city was able to keep many key services and get to many needed projects with just a minimal tax increase. “Our [Capital Improvements and Street Maintenance Committee] looked at road projects and we were able to complete our entire process without substantial cuts to infrastructure. Which, in past years, we would do.”

Rasmussen previously said residents can expect an increase of about $50 per $100,000 of assessed value on their upcoming tax bills.
Tuesday’s discussion did include an amendment to adjust the tax increment portion of the levy by about two dollars due to a delay in receiving some information from the state.
With Wausau’s budget in place, all four taxing entities for city residents have now set their 2022 spending plans. That clears the way for residents to receive their tax bills by mid-December.
