PLOVER, WI (WSAU) — The Village of Plover has put a succession plan in place with the pending retirement of Administrator Dan Mahoney.
“What’s going to happen is Dan Ault, who is currently our Chief of Police, will be sliding into the Administrator’s role,” said Mahoney. “He’s done a tremendous job from a leadership standpoint, really mentoring folks to step up into leadership roles.”
That trait is exactly what the village board was looking for, along with Ault’s knowledge of the Plover area. “We have spent 20 years, and by we I mean the village board and administration, setting up the right culture in the village. Working well with our property owners, working well with our businesses, and the great working relationship that exists with the village board and the department heads. We really wanted to continue that culture.”
Ault’s movement then creates an opening in the Police Department, which Mahoney says will be filled by Assistant Chief Ryan Fox. “Already some of those duties have been passed off to him. As a matter of fact, more or less most of the duties will be handed off to Ryan as Police Chief and Dan [Ault] as Administrator starting next week.”
That is by design to allow Mahoney to finish up projects that need to be closed out such as grant applications for the Lake Pacawa improvements. He adds that he’s leaving “no stone unturned” when it comes to passing the baton down the line to Ault.
It’s also worth noting that Ault’s time as the Administrator will not be long, as he is also getting close to retirement age.
Mahoney is retiring effective February 4th. He plans to remain active on the board of the Celebrate Plover Foundation, giving him a hand in finalizing the upgrades to Lake Packawa Park which began during his time as Administrator.
Mahoney plans on spending more time with his grandchildren and traveling in retirement.
The job was not posted and no public applications were taken for the position.
