Mark Naniot has been mending orphaned and injured wildlife for nearly 40 years, and is the rehab director for Wild Instincts in Rhinelander. His rehab center is one of the few facilities that specializes in North American River Otter rehab and that’s drawn attention from the British Broadcasting Corporation, also known as the BBC. The BBC is known for their wildlife documentaries across countries and is preparing an hour-long film about the otters rehab journey from intake to release.
Naniot said,“Every time the otters make a jump; okay this is their first swim, this is their first time diving, this is their first time in a deeper pool, first time getting live minnows or larger prey or first time giving them different things. Went from going from a bottle to their first solid food. So we have footage of all this pretty much throughout the whole process to show, you know, these are the steps they take.”
Naniot says the crew will film a couple of more times then will spend a year putting the documentary together.
