STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) — A second phase of an extensive remodeling and expansion project has been completed at an area hospital. Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital officials in Stevens Point have opened their new patient registration area.
The replacement for what used to be “the hub” is built to increase the level of privacy for people checking in for medical services.
Vice President of Operations Cherrie Pavelec-Marti says this patient registration area is a “milestone in our overall campus plan.”
Work is continuing in the eastern side of the hospital where the old emergency department was located.
The new 20-million dollar upgrade to the emergency department and urgent care area was the first completed phase of the project, and opened last October, and remains the busiest emergency department in the Ministry Health Care system. The Stevens Point ER and Urgent Care unit sees over 40,000 patients every year, or about 109 patients every day. St. Michael’s Hospital’s ER averages receiving a new patient every 13 minutes.
