MOSINEE, Wis (WSAU) Mosinee’s City Council voted to override a veto, clearing the way for city funding of the Little Bull Falls Log Jam. The event, scheduled for August, recreates the community’s history as a logging camp.
Mayor Brent Jacobson said, while he supports the event, he wanted its finances separated from the city. He argued that any expenses from Log Jam should have been debated as part of the city’s budget. The veto would have withheld about $5,000 that the city was holding from earlier Log Jams. Jacobson also wanted the event organizers to secure their own liability insurance instead of piggy-backing on the city’s policy. Organizers said the insurance expense would have been unaffordable.
The city council’s 4-2 vote means the city will resume being the lead sponsor for the event. Log Jam will again have access to city funding and insurance. Mosinee public works employees will continue to be allowed to offer in-kind services to help set up the event.
This year’s event is the 11th annual Log Jam. It’s scheduled for August 12-14 at River Park.
