MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Republican-authored bill in Madison would allow those 18 and older to apply for a concealed carry permit.
State Rep. Shae Sortwell of Two Rivers is sponsoring the measure, he says since 18-year-olds can legally vote and enlist for military service, they should also be allowed to carry a concealed weapon.
The current minimum age to apply is 21.
Opponents of the measure include the Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort, City of Milwaukee, and the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
