WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — We’re now getting a closer look into the gunman who killed four people in the Wausau area on March 22nd. Audio of shooter Nengmy Vang’s 911 calls have been released.
The call began with Vang admitting to the shootings.
Dispatch: “Marathon County 911.” Vang: “Yeah, I’m the one who murdered. I’m the one shooter. I’m the one who shot all those American people and the lawyer. I know I’m guilty. I killed them all.”
Marathon County dispatch spent hours negotiating with Vang.
Dispatch: “If I was you, I’d want to hug my kids again and I’d want to my children again and I’d want to be able to tell my children how much I love them.”
Vang saying the stress caused by his divorce and the amount of money he owed playing a factor into his decisions.
“I owe the state $15,000 in income tax. I owe a lot of money. Today I went to see my lawyer. She wants me to pay her alimony. She wants my boat. She wants my gun. She wants my 401K. She wants everything.”
Vang repeatedly asked for the media to come to his home while talking with 911, saying he wanted everyone to know why he was doing what he was doing. Police would eventually shoot Vang and he would die from his injuries in the hospital days later.
Karen Barclay, Sara Quirt Sann, Dianne Look, and Everest Metro Police Detective Sgt. Jason Weiland were all shot and killed by Vang during the rampage.
