WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The United Way of Marathon County is set to distribute over $130,000 in emergency funding to groups or organizations that provide needed services like meals or housing to people in need.
UWMC’s Director of Community Impact and Education Tara Glodowski says anyone such as a Church service group, soup kitchen, or meals on wheels type organization can apply for funding. “Basically these dollars are to help programs that work with, let’s say, a meal site. They’re serving meals to people in need whether it’s a lunch or they are packaging meals and delivering them.”
The dollars are also open to those groups who provide help with emergency payments for shelter such as a hotel stay or rent or utility assistance. Glodowski says individuals are not eligible to apply for funding, but she estimates that the dollars will help hundreds of people in Marathon County keep up with their food and shelter expenses.
Around $32,500 is available from Phase 39 and over $101,000 is coming from the federal ARPAR dollars.
Those interested in applying for funding can contact Glodowski at 715-298-5707 to start the application process. Applications are due by February 24th and will be followed by a meeting with the local United Way board before being eligible to receive some of the funding.
