STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — It’s now easier than ever for winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy sledding in Iverson Park in Stevens Point.
Mayor Mike Wiza announced the addition of a unique “Sled Library” at the park on Thursday. Wiza says it’s built on the little library or little food pantry concept, allowing people to borrow a sled for use in the park then return it to the rack when they are done.
“The sled share will give out of town visitors another option when they come to the area with younger children. They might be here for another event and if they can borrow sleds, they can enjoy some of the other great things Stevens Point has to offer,” said Mayor Mike. “Even area residents who may not have sleds can take out a loaner while they’re at Iverson.”
The sleds were given by an anonymous donor and city workers were able to build the rack and make a sign, meaning the entire project comes at little to no cost to the taxpayer.
Wiza says they’ll be relying on residents to use the honor system to not remove the sleds from the park and put them back when they are done. He says they’ll also welcome donations from families that might have sleds they aren’t using anymore; just bring them to the park and add them to the library.
