MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A Lincoln County officer responsible for shooting and killing a man who was threatening another person with a knife will not face charges for unlawful use of his weapon.
The incident happened in a Town of Pine River home back on December 10th. Deputies were dispatched to the home for a report of a man wielding a knife, later identified as John Z.A. Moua.
While officers were in the home, Moua raised the knife towards the face of someone else in the home. That’s when Officer Tyler Iverson fired his weapon, hitting Moua.
Life-saving measures were administered by officers and first responders, but Moua died at the scene.
An investigation into the incident was opened, and Iverson was placed on paid leave. Officials say as a result of the investigation, no charges will be filed. “Moua’s death is tragic but Iverson acted lawfully and in accordance with his duty as a law enforcement officer,” said district attorney Galen Bayne-Allison.
