WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man has been sentenced for charges of possessing the materials necessary to produce explosives along with various other charges as part of a plea deal reached in late January.
Scott Ryan will serve one year in the Marathon County jail for selling, possessing, or manufacturing a Molotov Cocktail along with a count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The 36-year-old was also sentenced to between 90 days and 9 months for other counts of battery and disorderly conduct in a domestic abuse situation for other cases, with those sentences to run concurrently to the longer sentence.
He was also fined for various counts and will be required to install an ignition lock device on his vehicle as part of a sentence for a third offense of operating while under the influence of a controlled substance. He’ll also lose his drivers license for just over two years.
Marathon County Judge Michael Moran will determine if Ryan qualifies for credit for time already served at a later date.

Charges from the Molotov Cocktail incident came to light after a family member noticed materials used in making those explosive devices in Ryan’s home last fall. Charges were brought forward later that year, and the case was wrapped together with various other open cases against him.
Those included a December 2020 incident of disorderly conduct by use of a dangerous weapon. He’s also accused of a May 2021 incident that includes a separate charge of disorderly conduct by use of a dangerous weapon along with operating a firearm while intoxicated, carrying a concealed knife, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He also has multiple open counts of domestic abuse and bail jumping against him.
