WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Fundraising efforts for the newly named Alexander Airport Park renovations have almost reached their goal. To try to raise the final remaining funds for their goal, the Southeast Side Neighborhood group will be selling engraved brick pavers that will be displayed in the park.
Airport Director at the Wausau Downtown Airport and resident of the southeast side, John Chmiel says that the orders for engraved bricks will be handled on a first come first serve basis.
“This is the official announcement of the sale,” said Chmiel. “The sooner you get in there, the better chance you’ll have of getting a paver. We hope that everybody that wants one gets one. But there are a limited number available.
The group has been trying to raise over $500,000 themselves so city or county taxes will not be impacted. Chmiel says the group is about $45,000 away from hitting that goal. He says it’s been amazing how quickly the funds have been raised for the project.
“It’s because of the passion of the people involved and also the organizations that helped us out financially. It’s just absolutely incredible how quickly the funds have been raised and we’re almost there and excited. And, we’re confident the people of Wausau will help us make up the difference to make this a really unique attraction for the area,” he said.
The brick pavers are available in two different sizes, four inch by eight inches for $175 eight inch by eight inches for $500. To buy a paver you can visit www.alexanderairportpark.com and click on the donate button.
