STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Police in Stevens Point have arrested a 17-year-old for charges of OWI following a police chase Sunday night.
Officers attempted to pull over a vehicle that ran a stop sign and nearly hit a marked squad car. As officers attempted to initiate the stop, the vehicle turned off its headlights and taillights and drove off.
Officers were able to follow the vehicle through tracks in the snow but were unable to get the driver to stop. They were able to catch up with the driver as they attempted to hide their vehicle behind a business, but again the driver fled. Finally, a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) was conducted, which led to an arrest.
The driver was identified as Owen Gross, who now faces numerous traffic violations along with first-offense OWI involving drugs, possession of hallucinogenic drugs, battery to law enforcement, and fleeing an officer.
Court action against Gross is pending.
