WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The man found guilty of setting two fires in two separate buildings last December will serve prison time.
Alexander Krohn changed his plea to no contest this week for felony counts of arson and recklessly endangering safety in exchange for having eight other counts dismissed but read into the record. A judge then found him guilty and sentenced him to five years in the state prison system.
Krohn will also serve a total of 10 years probation and pay more than $3,400 in restitution to at least two victims in the case.
Charges stem from a Mid-December incident in which Krohn disabled smoke detectors in his Wausau group home, then setting his unit on fire. No one was injured in the incident but firefighters reported a significant amount of damage to Krohn’s unit.
Another fire was reported later that evening at a home that belonged to Krohn’s dad.
Krohn left the scene and went missing for more than a day. Officers finally caught up to him in Rothschild, where he was arrested.
The 28-year-old had faced a maximum of 40 years in prison on the charges.
