COLUMBUS, OH (WSAU) — The Wisconsin women’s hockey team fell 2-1 at Ohio State on Saturday to close out the regular season.
Daryl Watts scored the lone goal of the game for Wisconsin at the end of the second period. Cami Kornish got her third straight start in the net and made 43 saves.
Ohio State outscored Wisconsin 7-2 over the two-game weekend set.
Saturday marked the final day of WCHA regular-season play, with the Minnesota Golden Gophers claiming the conference regular-season title. Ohio State finishes second, with Wisconsin third.
First-round conference tournament matchups are as follows. Each will be a best-of-three with all three games hosted by the higher seed Feb 25th-27th:
#1 Minnesota vs #8 St. Thomas (MN)
#2 Ohio State vs #7 St. Cloud State (MN)
#3 Wisconsin vs #6 Bemidji State (MN)
#4 Minnesota-Duluth vs #5 Minnesota State, Mankato
Due to an imbalance in the number of games played by each school, the league used a points percentage model to determine conference standings. The four series winners will advance to Minneapolis for the WCHA Final Faceoff the weekend of March 5th. The winner of that will earn the WCHA’s automatic bid to the Women’s Hockey National Championship tournament.
