WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Wausau man was found guilty of five felonies and two misdemeanors for a violent domestic encounter with a former girlfriend.
Carrington D. Franklin, age 29, was found guilty by a judge for felony counts of burglary-committing battery on a person, substantial battery-intended bodily harm, strangulation and suffocation, intimidating a victim with use or attempt of force, and 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety. He was also found guilty of 2 misdemeanors for disorderly conduct and battery.
Franklin also had a charge of 1st-degree intentional homicide, but that charged was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
These charges stem from an incident where officers were called to a Weston home in February from a 911 call that had a woman screaming in the background. When officers arrived the woman had substantial injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Franklin has a repeater enhancement on his charges that could have him be sentenced for more than the maximum 44 years he already faces. He does have two previous felony convictions for possessing a short-barreled shotgun or rifle and armed robbery.
Franklin is being held on a $750,000 cash bond and will be sentenced on February 26th.
