STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — UWSP struck first on a short-handed goal in the second but a six-goal tear by Eau Claire helped the Bluegolds to a 6-2 win in the WIAC Commissioner’s Cup Tournament Final in Stevens Point on Saturday.
Wilson Northey scored that early goal, but after that UWEC would pour it on for the remainder of the contest. The Pointers did get one back late in the 3rd, but by then it was too late.
UWSP ends the season with 21 wins but will require an at-large bid to the national tournament if they are to make the national tournament. The WIAC Champion does not receive an automatic birth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
UWSP are still technically the defending Division III national champions, the last two championship tournaments were called off due to COVID-19.
