WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The intersection of Bugbee Avenue and Marten Street in Wausau will close on Monday as crews continue work on the new drinking water treatment plant.
During the closure, crews will be installing a water main and water valves for the facility.
The drinking water treatment plant is in the final stages of construction and is anticipated to come online by July or August. The city is currently in the process of a pilot study for the facility to determine which filtration systems will best remove PFAS from the water.
Public Works Director Eric Lindman says the facility will be the first of its kind in Wisconsin designed to remove the dangerous “forever chemicals,” which were recently discovered in all six of the city’s water wells.
The closure is expected to last for five days, though it’s unclear when the closure will begin.
