MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WDLB) Marshfield Clinic Health System is acquiring the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville. The two sides announced Tuesday they have signed a letter of intent which will eventually bring Memorial into the Marshfield Clinic Health System, according to Memorial C-E-O Ryan Neville.
“We have a close relationship,” Neville said. “And as Memorial began planning a new hospital, there was a lot of discussion about what the delivery model would be for the new facility.”
Neville says the signed letter of intent signals the start of a due diligence period to finalize terms of the acquisition with a goal of completing the transaction by June 30th.
Marshfield Clinic C-E-O Dr. Susan Turney said in a statement released on Tuesday the new partnership “signals a future of health care in Clark County where patients will have even greater access to care delivered where, when and how they want it”.
The two organizations have worked collaboratively for decades. Currently six Marshfield Clinic specialties are active at Memorial Medical Center, with Radiology most recently added.
Neville said the affiliation does support Memorial’s plans for a new 40-million-dollar medical, surgical, and outpatient clinic in Neillsville.
Because of the due diligence process, Neville says a planned May first ground-breaking for the new facility might be delayed.
Several developers have shown interest in the current facility, which was constructed in 1954. The new medical center will be built on property just off Highway 10 near River Avenue. Neville says the new hospital will likely be named Marshfield Clinic Memorial.
Memorial Medical Center also will continue its partnership with Sniteman Pharmacy, the Art of Optometry and Neillsville Care and Rehab.
The two organizations aren’t releasing the specific terms of the deal.
