UNDATED (WSAU-WAOW) — A missing Antigo man has been found alive in Costa Rica after having no contact with his family for nearly 2 days, according to Newsline 9.
The bizarre story began on Monday when Ryan Messerschmidt was found beaten in a truck near the city of Liberia. He was taken to a police station then left to check into a hospital. He left the hospital a few hours later.
Messerschmidt was then found hiding in his car on Tuesday. He allegedly told authorities he was hiding from people that he believed would try to hurt him.
Messerschmidt’s family tells Newsline 9 that they have seen pictures of his injuries. They say he was beaten pretty badly with gashes on his legs. His clothing was also torn.
Messerschmidt’s father says the whole thing is hard to believe, and it’s hard to tell which entities are telling them the whole story. The US State Department has not commented, only saying that they are working with authorities in Costa Rica to figure out what happened.
