WAUKESHA, WI (WSAU) — The man suspected of plowing a vehicle through the Waukesha Chrismas Parade route last November is expected to find out if his case will go to trial on Monday.
Darrell Brooks Jr is scheduled for a court appearance at 2 PM where a judge will decide if the jury trial scheduled to begin on October 3rd will stay on the calendar, or if it will be pushed back to 2023 at the request of his defense team.
Lawyers for Brooks say that with the mountain of evidence they have to process that the proceedings should be moved back. They’ve also filed for a change of venue in the case.
Brooks is facing dozens of charges stemming from the incident including first-degree intentional homicide, recklessly endangering safety, hit-and-run causing death, and vehicular homicide by intoxicated use of a controlled substance.
Six people died in the incident and dozens more were injured.
Brooks faces a mandatory life sentence for the homicide charges alone.
