STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A shooting occurred early Thanksgiving morning at a closed hotel in Stevens Point.
A press release from Stevens Point Assistant Police Chief Tom Zenner says the department got a call at 3:19 a.m. of a shooting at a hotel located at 300 Division St. North. When officers arrived they found a male victim with several gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported by ambulance from the scene and is being treated for their injuries. A 24-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene. He is currently being held at the Portage County Jail on charges of attempted homicide.
Four individuals were located in the hotel which is currently under construction and not open for business. Preliminary findings show that the four, who are all from out of state, were temporarily residing in the hotel while working on the construction of the building.
No further information is being released at this time as officers remain at the scene for the ongoing investigation.
