MEQUON, Wi (UWSP-WSAU) — The No. 20 UW-Stevens Point baseball team (14-2) extended its non-conference win streak to six and overall win streak to five with a 7-1 win at Concordia (Wis.) (8-10) on Tuesday.
Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) had three hits apiece. Comer scored three times and drove in a run. Nelson belted a three run-home run late to put the game out of reach. Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) added two hits and Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) drove in a pair. Comer reached on an infield single to begin the second. He moved to third on a double by Luedtke. Tomczak followed with a sac fly for a 1-0 lead. CUW tied the game in the bottom of second on a pair of hits. In the fourth, Comer reached on a one-out error. Quin Henwood (Appleton, Wis./North) followed and also reached on an error with both runners moving to scoring position on the play. Luedtke drove in a run with a single. Tomczak got an RBI on a fielder’s choice and UWSP led 3-1. Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) legged out an infield single with one away in the fifth. Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) replaced him on a fielder’s choice and Nelson singled to put runners on the corners. Comer drove in another run with an infield single. In the ninth, Baumann reached on a passed ball. He stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch as Simmons walked. Nelson followed with a three-run home run to left to finish the scoring. Nick Carpenter (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) went 4.0 with two strikeouts in the start. Nathan Krommenakker (Rudolph, Wis./Lincoln) went 2.0 with three strikeouts and Sidney Ferry (Paw Paw, Mich./Homeschooled) struck out the side in the ninth. The Pointers will be at home on Saturday (April 9) to open a four-game series against UW-La Crosse. First pitch of Saturday’s twin bill is set for 12:00 p.m. |
