WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) City Council reviews next steps for construction project on County U.
The overpass was hit by a utility truck’s raised hoist on December 10th.
The crash damaged 4 of the bridge’s girders that need to be replaced and superficially damaged several others. Girders are concrete covered metal bars supporting the bridge. WisDot is the architect of the bridge and will need to halt traffic in order to complete the project. For now, the agency blocked off the outward lane for traffic heading East.
The proposed detour would use US 51 S to detour oncoming eastbound traffic and redirect them to US 51 N to get to their destination when construction occurs.
The team is working on the designs for the project and will begin their bidding process with contractors in July.
The project will not cost extra dollars to the taypayer, instead the driver’s insurance will pay for it.
The bridge is safe to cross.
