STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) Donaldson Company is discussing their planned staff cuts for the first time. In an interview with The Stevens Point Journal, a company spokesman says the company will reduce its workforce by 150 to 200 employees.
The layoffs will take place over the next two years.
The company says there are no plans to close their Stevens Point location.
Beck Cahn, a spokesperson for Donaldson, told the Journal that 29 hourly workers and 6 salaried managers were let go this week. Until now reports of job cuts had come from employees, who’d notified city officials and several media outlets. The company says it notified union officials and the North Central Workforce Development board this week. They don’t have to notify the state because the layoffs will take place over an 18 to 24 month person, and some of the cuts will come through retirement and attrition.
Donaldson, which operates facilities at 140 locations worldwide, is in the middle of a company-wide restructuring.
The Stevens Point location manufactures industrial filters.
Stevens Point mayor Mike Wiza says there will be a community meeting on May 15 to assist displaced workers.
