SCHOFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Many in the area have long been frustrated by the road condition of Business 51 between Wausau and Weston.
But one local business is using the poor road conditions to help their customers. Larry Mirman is the General Manager of Car Connection in Schofield along Business 51.
Mirman told WAOW-TV Business 51 is in the worst condition he’s seen in his 40 years in the area. “You’re coming over here with your car every day. Day after day it’s just a constant shaking. You’ll see the effects of the pothole. You’ll see an instantly broken rim.”
Mirman’s business sells used cars, so he’s found a unique way to use the poor road conditions to his advantage. Mirman describes how he lets his customers test the suspension of a car on the worst stretch of Business 51.
“If people have rattles and things like that, this is the road you go over. This one and the one a little farther down because if there’s going to be a rattle, you’re going to hear it here.”
Several cities and municipalities in Marathon County have passed measures urging the DOT to repair the road in the next couple of years. Currently, the road is not scheduled to be fixed by the DOT for another decade.
