WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — Residents in Wisconsin Rapids will no longer be able to get date night delivered to their door.
Family Video and Marco’s Pizza, which shared the same building on 8th Street South, will be ceasing operations this week.
The Marco’s location has already closed as of 4 PM Monday, according to a sign posted on their door. The closure leaves the Marshfield location as the only Marco’s in Central Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Rapids location first opened in February of 2017.
Marco’s, an Ohio-based chain, was recently voted one of the best in America by a national survey and was once featured in an episode of CBS’s Undercover Boss.
Family Video, one of the last remaining video rental chains in America since the beginning of the digital streaming age, will be closing its doors on May 7th. Managers say the last day to rent DVD and Blu-Ray discs will be Thursday, May 3rd.
On Friday, a liquidation sale will begin including all movies, video games, and fixtures from the store.
Managers and employees of the store tell the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune the decision came from the corporate level and was unexpected.
Family Video also recently closed a location in Portage. Remaining Family Video locations, including those in Rhinelander, Stevens Point, and Weston, have begun selling CBD products as a means of diversifying their revenue against competitors such as Netflix and Hulu.
Both Marco’s and Family Video were owned by Illinois-based Highland Ventures and worked in tandem out of their location. Those ordering pizzas for delivery or pickup online could add a rental from Family Video to their cart, and Marco’s delivery driver would bring it along with the food and soda. Residents could also return a Family Video rental to their Marco’s driver.
Those ordering by phone could also ask to have a specific movie included with their food.
