SHAWANO, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A high-speed chase ended in flames this afternoon in Shawano County.
According to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by teens headed south on US-45 were going to be pulled over for a routine traffic stop. Instead, the teens tried to escape officers by weaving through traffic at speeds of up to 100 mph.
Sgt. Mike Wizner told WAOW-TV the car drove off the road five minutes later. The car hit a gas line collided into a stump and a tree before it stopped. The car also came close to hitting a house according to Wizner. The teens suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Several agencies helped to assist in the chase and crash including the Wisconsin Public Service, Marathon and Shawano County Sheriffs, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The names of the teens involved in the crash have not been released at this time.
