WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — It’s officially back to the drawing board for three parcels of land located within Wausau’s Riverlife development.
The Economic Development Committee voted Tuesday to approve a new request for proposals for lots 6, 7, and 8, land that had previously been under an agreement with T. Wall Enterprises but was canceled due to lack of progress this spring.
Economic Development Manager Randy Fifrick says he’s put a longer timeframe on this RFP because the land is scheduled to be part of a tour of developable land in the area sponsored by CENTERGY. “They will be bringing in a number of developers from around the state and I really want to take that opportunity to show off this site,” said Fifrick. “Hopefully bring some more interest to it. That’s why we decided on a July deadline.”
Fifrick says he hopes that the extended window will be the only part of the project that has a longer wait time. His goal is to move the project, whatever that may be, forward as quickly as possible.
“Obviously we may not be able to stay to that timeline, but my goal is to keep things moving on this so we don’t have those big voids in the process like we had previously,” said Fifrick.
The committee also requested that Fifrick include aerial photos of the parcels to give developers a better sense of the lots and how they fit into what’s already been developed in the area.
T. Wall Enterprises had pitched a mixed-use development with condominiums and office/retail space. That agreement was canceled in March due to a lack of progress toward a viable developer’s agreement and a lack of insurance certification requirements.

Also on Tuesday the committee named District 8 Alder Sarah Watson as their chairperson for the next two years. They also voted to extend the lease agreement for the Riverlife Park concessions stand with Briq’s through the end of the summer. The agreement had been scheduled to expire at the end of June, but the Committee felt it was best to not end the agreement mid-season.
