MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — A local school district has named their new Superintendent after searching for several months.
The Mosinee School District has named David Muñoz as the district’s new Superintendent of Schools. Muñoz comes to the district from Menomonie High School where he served as Principle for almost 9 years. Muñoz has also worked as a middle school Principle, a high school Assistant Principal, and began his career as a teacher in the Manitowoc school district.
Muñoz says transitioning to a superintendent position was a natural one for him after spending 18 years as a school administrator. “I’m a very experienced administrator throughout the state of Wisconsin. It was something that my wife and I were looking into a little bit last year but really more seriously this year. And this is just the perfect position. A wonderful community, a perfect position a great board. So we’re really looking forward to the opportunity.”
The interview process for the position began back at the end of February. And Muñoz felt the process was wonderful as it was very involved.
“There was an initial interview. After the initial interview, we came back for a second interview where we met the community. Which was a lot of fun in the auditorium. A lot of questions from the community which I thought were just awesome. We were able to meet the administrative team and have an interview with them. And then a second interview with the school board so it was very involved.”
Muñoz explains his extremely positive demeanor will help him guide the district as he discusses his vision as Superintendent. “My vision is to always serve. And to be serving all the time. To be working with people all the time. I’m very much a servant leader and I’m excited to continue to be a servant leader in this role.”
Mosinee School Board President Diane Gorman says what made Muñoz stand out from the other two candidates was his communication skills not only with the board but also with the community and the students.
Muñoz has worked in the area before, as an Associate Principal at Wausau West from 2003 to 2010. His family’s time in the area before is what drew Muñoz to the position as it felt like home. Muñoz explained his youngest daughter was born in the area during his time at Wausau West, which helps make the area like a home.
Muñoz will begin as the new Superintendent starting in July after his contract with the Menomonie School District ends in June. Muñoz says he and his family are looking forward to living in the area, especially having two kids who will be in the school system.
