MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Kronenwetter man will spend 5 years in prison for receiving partially nude photos from a 12-year-old girl.
USA Today-Wisconsin is reporting Peter Jewell-Reigel received the mandatory minimum sentence for production of child pornography after pleading guilty to the charge back in December. Jewell-Reigel also received eight years of supervised release following his five-year sentence.
The charge stems from an incident in August of 2018 where Jewell-Reigel began chatting with the girl through the online role-playing game “Wizard 101”. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman, the chats turned to sex and Jewell-Reigel asked if the girl would send him a photo of writing on her breast.

Jewell-Reigel’s attorney Joseph Bugni asked for the minimum sentence for Jewell-Reigel because he said his conduct was not unusual. Bugni referenced allegations against former Packers quarterback Brett Farve in saying people now send each other nude photos all the time.
U.S. District Judge James Peterson said to Bugni’s statement that, “I’m not ready to say it’s become the norm.” He also mentioned that “It’s dangerous and destructive to have people circulate explicit photos on the internet.”
Jewell-Reigel was found to have about 140 photos of the 12-year-old and about 60 photos of other girls who were around the age of 16. Jewell-Reigel also has a troubled past with questionable relationships with girls around his age.
Peterson said he didn’t want to let Jewell-Reigel’s past amplify the consequences he faced for his child pornography charge. But that because Jewell-Reigel knew the girl was 12-years-old that the conduct was horrific.
Jewell-Reigel apologized in court to everyone involved in the case and accepted responsibility for his actions.
