WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — Sentencing has been handed down for two Marshfield teens found guilty of making a bomb threat at their school in December of 2019.
Simone Rootellis and Alyssa Portz were sentenced to probation and jail time in two separate decisions for multiple counts of giving a false alarm.
Portz pled guilty to 3 misdemeanor counts in May and was sentenced to 200 hours of community service. She’s also been instructed to serve two weeks in the local jail, beginning July 20th.
Rootellis pled no contest in her case and will also serve a two-week jail sentence and must complete counseling as deemed necessary.
Both girls were also given a two-year probation sentence that has been withheld.
Charges stemmed from several messages that were found in bathroom stalls at Marshfield High School saying a bomb would go off in the school on December 18th. Both girls initially denied knowing anything about the incident, but Portz later said she told authorities about the messages herself to throw them off the case.
Rootellis admitted she thought the plot would be a joke.
The girls were 17 at the time of the threat in December but had the case moved to adult court back in February.
Both teens will also submit DNA samples.
